Pleased to report that we have now got our first graduates of the Green Skills hub. The first intake of students finished their two-week course on 8th March. The qualification they have obtained is a level 2 understanding domestic retrofit. They also received a level 1 in Health, Safety and Environment.
The course was held on Holloway Park with materials for study provided for the students. They will now be eligible to obtain a CSCS card. This essential for working on construction sites if they pass their exam this week.
Nine students completed the course of which six were women. Our very own Community Liaison Officer, Laura Romero, was one of those initial student intake studying on the first course. She reported back on feedback and said ‘most students found the subject of retrofit interesting, challenging, and useful’. The students joined the course with varying levels of construction experience and maintained high attendance throughout the course.
For the project to spread the knowledge of Green Skills and be successful in Islington, we have been dependent on the support of Islington Council, Peabody and other training and employment services to help find candidates for this training. We appreciate that this partnership working has been essential, and we will continue to work together to recruit candidates for further courses in the future.
