Apprenticeship opportunities at Holloway Park

London Square is working with Peabody as a development partner for the former Holloway Prison site. The 10-acre development scheme is set to deliver 985 new homes, with 415 allocated for social rent and 178 for shared ownership. This makes 60% of the development part of affordable housing.

The multi-use development will also have commercial space, a 1.4-acre park, specialist housing for senior residents and a multi-functional women’s building.

As part of the development’s legacy, Holloway Park will deliver:

  • 51 apprenticeships through the development phase of the scheme,
  • At least 30% will be for women.
  • Over 18 different job roles will be available as an apprenticeship route.

Why you should consider an apprenticeship?

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a paid employment which combines practical hands-on experience with structured off-the-job training. As part of the apprenticeship, your employer gives you tasks to perform while working alongside experienced staff, and a training provider equips you with the theoretical skills to perform those tasks. As a result, you’ll earn while you learn and gain an industry-specific qualification without needing a student loan.

Who can become an apprentice?

Apprenticeships are open to anyone 16 or older, not in full-time education and living in England. Apprenticeship opportunities at Holloway Park are for Islington residents only, Female candidates are strongly encouraged.

Sebrina’s apprenticeship story

London Square’s apprentice site supervisor, Sebrina, joined the Holloway Park development in October and is completing her level 4 apprenticeship with the NHBC. Sebrina said, “I decided to be an apprentice because it was a good route for me to get into construction management and learn new skills with on-the-job training and studying through university and not leaving university in debt.

You gain on-the-job experience that just going to university won’t teach you. It gives you a better understanding and insight into your intended job role, whether that role suits your attributes, rather than going to university for 3/4 years and then starting the job role and realising this isn’t for me.

It’s important to promote apprenticeships to let people know that there are alternatives to just going to university. There are different types of learners that can benefit from an apprenticeship. I’m a visual learner, which means I learn better on the job by being shown things first-hand.”
