Members of the Holloway Park team went to meet residents and help out a bit at the coffee morning which is held between 10.30 and 12 noon and lunch held at St George’s church on Wednesdays (during term time) between 12.15-1pm.
These lunches held at their Wellbeing Cafe are an opportunity for people to get together for a meal and to share some conversation and the company of others, and everyone is made welcome regardless of whether you are a church goer or not. Everyone is invited.
This popular lunch is made from surplus food collected from local shops and made into a delicious meal by the community chef Nic, and helped by the volunteer kitchen assistant Bron, both pictured here. These lunches include great vegetarian options which are very popular, so there is something for everyone. We met several people who come regularly to the lunch for company as much as the food and it was good to see people enjoying the time together sharing a meal.
We had a go at some of the washing up as there was plenty to do after about 30 people had lunch and lots of help is needed to make these lunches a success. Both in preparation and with the clearing up afterwards. The vicar of St Georges Alexandra said ‘we always need volunteers to help so we would love to hear from anyone who could help us on a regular basis’. If you might be interested in helping with the Wednesday lunches please contact St George’s via office@stgeorgestufnellpark.org or through their office on 020 7607 6678 but please bear in mind their administrator is only there one day a week.
