Keeping Construction in the Family

We would like to introduce you to one of our new female workers within the construction team at Holloway Park.

Ornela is an Essex girl who started her construction career at Holloway Park with us last September which meant joining her dad, who is already working with us here. She also has other family members who work in the construction industry in various roles so for her it was a natural step.

Ornela explained about her interest in building ‘ I always wanted to do a hands on job. I am keen on sports and I’ve always been handy in putting things together and fixing things. My family have always encouraged me and I am also good at the paperwork which is involved’.

She is just 19 years old and it’s her first job working full time with us doing administration keeping essential paperwork up to date. During her time at Holloway Park she is also learning other things such as trying her hand at bricklaying. Ornela advised us that ‘Bricklaying is not as easy as it looks, there is lots of maths involved in following the drawings  accurately to get things built.’ Despite the long days working here, Ornela still finds time to pursue other interests such as boxing and becoming a tattoo artist, so we are sure she will go far in whatever she turns her hands to.

In terms of future ambition she is looking at a level 4 Site Manager course, but currently she is enjoying learning a bit of everything across all trades as a path to work her way up within the construction industry. She has found it has been a good environment to be in, working with the friendly site team here, which has a larger proportion of female staff than most construction sites.
